From the Earth to Your Home

Natural Stone NATURAL STONE has been excavated from the earth. The basic types of natural stone used in building and architectural decoration are Limestone, Travertine, Marble, and Granite.

Limestone and Travertine are sedimentary, Marble is metamorphic, and Granite is igneous rock. Limestone, Travertine, and Marble are primarily composed of calcite; Granite of quartz, feldspar, and mica.

All are extracted by one means or another beginning with large blocks of stone about five feet square by ten feet long, then reduced to more useable sizes for building construction or paving tiles by cutting usually with diamond impregnated saw blades.

Surfaces may be polished, honed (smoothed), rusticated, or left saw cut. Most importantly all natural stones have a neutral ph and therefore should not be exposed to acidity or alkalinity. While some are harder than others, abrasives are not recommended.
