True Artisan Tile
HAND MADE, or fatto a mano in Italian, is truly a product which could not have reached its’ final appearance without the hands of man.
Whether shaping, molding, painting, or carving, our items are individually created by man piece by piece.
Some processes require several different types of artisans, such as the large jar shown which was hand built by a terra cotta mason, under glazed by an apprentice, then beautifully hand painted by an accomplished artist.
Original Works of Art
This is a scene from an original fresco in Pompeii. Pigments used to color the original stucco were from natural plants and blooms. The colors applied to this small piece of marble are more permanent and less likely to fade but, through a very ancient silk screening device, have been applied by hand to create the replica.

Hand Painted Tile
These four tiles beautifully illustrate the individual strokes of the glazers brush and ability to allow an over lapping; the technique creating a three dimensional effect. This requires very difficult repetition of exactly when to lift the brush from the piece and where to begin the next brush stroke.
The brush strokes must have almost exactly the same degree of pressure to accomplish this properly. The natural beauty is in the slight differences of the tiles, hand made qualities, and the satisfaction of knowing that no two can be exactly alike!
