The Art of New Ravenna Mosaics

September 23, 2014 Shane Saah

Last month we visited the premier designer and fabricator of custom mosaics in the US, New Ravenna mosaics.  Touring the art department, we spoke with the artists who begin the creative process of turning our customers vision into reality.  We then viewed the cutting shops which size the stone or glass into sizes and shapes which the mosaic artisans transform into individual pieces for stunning mosaics and works of art for residential and commercial surfaces.

The Art Department is where it all begins.  Skill artists work to create the image which will become the mosaic.  Consideration is given to the material - stone or glass in producing the final drawing.

Stone used in the mosaics are cut into strips which the mosaic artist will clip into the proper shapes.

Like tubes of paint to a painter, the mosaic artist uses strips of glass to create their art.

Getting in on the action!  We tried our hand at creating a glass mosaic.  Not a masterpiece but it help us understand the process so we better.
